Patrick J. Callanan began the business of boarding animals of the community in 1928 which has been thriving ever since, being carried on for three generations. Patrick would eventually retire and give the opportunity of running the business to his son, Dr. Kevin Callanan. After receiving his degree at University College Dublin in 1969, Kevin added the veterinary practice to the family business.

Over 40 years later, Kevin is now turning the business over to his sons to continue treating the animals of the greater Boston area. Dr. Jon Callanan and Neil Callanan have been working for more than 10 years in the family practice, determined to grow the business. Jon, following his father's footsteps, also received his degree from University College Dublin in 2008.

In 2006, they opened the Massachusetts Animal Medical Center, an 18,000 square foot facility with 6 exam rooms, a disgnostic laboratory, a digital radiograph system which includes dental capabilities and two surgical suites. The Center is open 7 days a week and located in Watertown, MA.
